SPECIAL REPORTS
(ANS - Rome) - The digital world, a modern Areopagus, is a field of action that cannot be neglected by the Salesian apostolate. At the same time, it must be inhabited with awareness and responsibility, bringing within it the traits proper to Salesianity, such as, for example, the ability to make communication a truly humanizing relationship. The General Councilor for Social Communication, Fr Gildásio Mendes dos Santos, speaks of this in his letter sent for this month of September.
(ANS – Rome) – As Salesians, we join the call and invitation of Pope Francis for a Global Compact on Education: as a mission, as a choice, as a future. To say "Salesians" is to say Education and Evangelization of young people. Once with Don Bosco, today like Don Bosco, renewed in the forms, in the processes, in the methodologies we need to make them live the opportunity of a new humanity. The best we can offer the new generations is education, thinking about the future of humanity with and for the young.
(ANS - Rome) - On 15 September 1993, in Palermo, Fr Pino Puglisi was brutally killed by the mafia. A symbolic coincidence, on the same day of this year Fr Roberto Malgesini was killed. Fr Puglisi was bothersome because he distanced young people from the world of crime, removed from the street those boys who, without his help, would have been sucked into the life of organized crime, used for small robberies and drug dealing. Fr Malgesini had always been involved in helping people in difficulty, the poorest people. For years he translated the Christian message into practice, bringing breakfast to the poor, accompanying them to doctors himself, managing the municipal canteen and dormitory, welcoming people, mainly migrants.
(ANS - New Rochelle) - Since the beginning of the pandemic, "Salesian Missions", the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, has responded to the emergency by helping the most affected populations in the most critical conditions. Thanks to its funds, food rations, personal hygiene products and medical care have been provided.
