A group of teenagers from the Salesian Institute in Guadalajara decided to give food to migrants waiting on the border between Guadalajara and the United States. It is a difficult situation. In recent years thousands of people have died trying to cross the border, while many others are still waiting for the right moment to attempt it. They stand close to the railway line with one goal - to enter the North American "paradise".
The teenagers from the Salesian Institute wrote: "Maybe we will not change the world, but at least we will change the world of those who make the gesture of giving, of offering their time, in order to share food."
In the video we see the work of the Salesians with the teenagers. We hear the words of Miguel and one of the teenagers speaking to one of the poorest and hungriest of the migrants as they are giving out food. "I was hungry and you gave me food."
The theologian Anselm Grün wrote: "When Jesus speaks of hunger, he is not referring only to the stomach. For Jesus, hunger is the image of a deeper human need… We have all met people who are hungry for love, attention, recognition, and who are eager to get something that nourishes their soul: words that give life or a look that encourages.“
What is that Christ came to bring to this world? He came to bring fire, that is, warmth, the simple human warmth without which even health of body is not enough: human warmth, a presence that restores the taste for life.
