(ANS– Chimpay) – Once again the small rural community of Chimpay is preparing to welcome thousands of pilgrims, who between Friday 25 and Sunday 27 August 2023, will arrive in this town in the Province of Río Negro, which gave birth to Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá, to pray and thank God for the gift of the "lily of Patagonia". It will be the 54th "Pilgrimage of Faith to Chimpay", which this year will take place under the motto "Ceferino, attentive gaze, sensitive heart, supportive hands". It will take place on the liturgical anniversary of the memory of the Blessed, on 26 August.

(ANS – Juba) – The General Councillor for the Missions, Fr Alfred Maravilla, has been on an Animation Visit to the 5 Salesian communities in South Sudan. From 12 to 18 August 2024 he visited the communities of Juba, Maridi, Wau, Tonj and Kaujok. The visit allowed Fr Maravilla to appreciate the great work that the Salesians and the Salesian Family are doing to help many very poor young people and families displaced due to years of conflict and political instability.

(ANS – Mumbai) - The National Migrant Workshop, a significant event for the South Asia region, held in Mumbai on August 16-17, provided a vital platform for the ‘Don Bosco for Migrants Network’ (DB4M) to learn, share, and address the pressing challenges of the distressed migrants in India. The workshop saw active participation from DB4M representatives from all Indian provinces, including religious and Church bodies CCBI and CBCI, NGOs, and Trade Unions, fostering a diverse and collaborative environment.

(ANS – Nerul) - The Salesian Province of Mumbai celebrated the birthday of Don Bosco on 16 August, by launching DB-ACE – Don Bosco Advanced Computer Education – at Don Bosco Academy, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.  This year – 2024 – marks a momentous occasion, the bicentenary of Don Bosco’s mission mandate dream, which he had at the young age of nine. This visionary dream imagined a world where marginalized youth would have equal opportunities, equipped with the skills needed to compete alongside their more privileged peers. Don Bosco’s dream was rooted in the belief that economic barriers should never prevent the expression of talent, skill, and God-given intelligence. 

(ANS – Colle Don Bosco) - On August 16, 2024, the Salesian Family witnessed a momentous event as Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, the 10th successor of Don Bosco, keeping in mind the decree and the stipulated time offered by the Holy See, resigned as Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, while his vicar Fr Stefano Martoglio took charge ad interim of the governance of the Salesian Congregation. The day, marked by the concluding mass of the weeklong Salesian Youth Synod, also held special significance as it was also the birthday of St. John Bosco himself. The holy mass was celebrated with profound solemnity and joy in Colle Don Bosco, the birthplace of the beloved saint.


(ANS - Rome) - ‘Since the time set by the aforementioned decree has come to an end, as of today I cease to hold the office of Rector Major of the Society of St Francis de Sales’. In a short communiqué, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime declares that as of today, 16 August 2024, his mandate as Rector Major comes to an end.
