RMG – Institutional Communication and social networks: challenges facing Social Communication Delegates in Europe.

16 May 2016

(ANS – Rome) – The European Provincial Delegates for Social Communication have just finished their 3-day meeting in the “Salesianum” in Rome. The 17 Delegates who took part in this meeting were accompanied by the Councillor General for Social Communication, Fr Filiberto González SDB, and assisted by the other members of Social Communication team at the Generalate.

Two professors from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross were invited as resource persons to develop the theme on Social Network by Professor Bruno Mastroianni and the theme on Institutional Communication by the Dean of the Faculty of social Communication, Fr Jose Maria La Porte. The awareness of the reality of Social Networks especially in the European context and its implications on our personnel and our works has renewed the participants' intent to form the members of the Salesian institutions on the proper involvement in Social Networks. Moreover, the clear concepts about Institutional Communication principles applied to the Salesian works were a help in order to formulate strategic plans regarding the corporate image of the Salesians in their provinces.

The other notable aspect of this meeting is the trend for collaboration among the different sectors of the province and even the cooperation between provinces and countries. The presentation of each province's “best practices” and the sharing of future plans were also an eye-opener to what the other provinces have successfully done.

The last full day was used for group sharing and discussion. The principal agreed points for the Salesian communication of Europe are the following:

  1. Each province will have a Provincial Communication Plan, drawn up by a team, always in accord with the SSCS and the actual realities of today's world.
  2. Collaborate and avail of the expertise of our Salesian Universities in order to provide quality content to create opinion.
  3. Educate the Salesians and collaborators on being present in Social Networks.
  4. The quality in our story telling, not just the quantity, but also attractive in a visual way.
  5. Structured guidelines regarding our corporate image.
  6. Continued and increasing collaboration, cooperation, clear communication and sharing of material.
