Kenya – Don Bosco Tech Africa Global Programme II Kick-off Workshop: A Commitment to Enhancing Vocational Training in Sub-Saharan Africa

(ANS – Nairobi) – From November 11th to 21st, 2024, Don Bosco Tech Africa, in collaboration with Don Bosco Mondo, hosted the Global Programme II (GP2) kick-off workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The event, themed "Increased Opportunities for Decent Work and Improved Living Standards for Young People in Sub-Saharan Africa by Improving the Quality and Relevance of Vocational Training Programs," brought together key stakeholders to chart a transformative path for vocational training in the region. Participants included Provincials, Provincial Economers, and P-TVETs from 10 provinces, covering ANN, ANG, AFC, ACC, AGL, ATE, AON, ZMB, MDG, AFE and AFE-Sudan delegation, alongside the Don Bosco Mondo and Don Bosco Tech Africa office teams.

The workshop opened with reflections on the processes, successes, and challenges of Global Programme Phase 1 (GP1). This introspective session highlighted significant achievements while also identifying areas for improvement, providing invaluable insights for GP2. The program is structured into three modules: Institutional Capacities, Modernization, and Advocacy, Networking and Joint Learning. Each module targets micro, meso and macro levels aiming to elevate TVET centres to new heights of quality and relevance while strengthening their impact and effectiveness.

Fr. Maximus, Director of DB Tech Africa, emphasized the shared commitment to youth empowerment, reflecting on the journey since 2017. He reiterated the goal of providing dignified work and growth opportunities for young people and called on participants to ensure the program meets its objectives across the eleven implementing countries. Mr. Steffen Möhlendick, Project Manager Public Cooperation Partners Don Bosco Mondo highlighted the commitment to delivering project goals that transform lives and communities, setting a new standard for vocational education across the continent. He stressed the focus on creating a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready vocational education system.

Fr. George TJ, Provincial of AFE Province and DB Tech Africa Board Chair, stressed the importance of commitment at both the provincial and training centre levels for the success of GP2. He underscored the need for quality of life and decent employment for young people, maintaining the quality of Don Bosco Tech Africa's brand, and continuous improvement. Workshop participants engaged in comprehensive sessions covering the evaluation of GP1, communication matrix, stakeholders' roles and responsibilities, logical framework, project financial guidelines, implementation matrix, monitoring and evaluation, and project reporting. These sessions ensured a thorough understanding and preparation for GP2.

The participants expressed their appreciation for the well-structured program, constructive discussions, and insightful sessions, pledging their commitment to the success of GP2. The workshop saw the signing of program contracts by the Provincials and Economers, officially committing to the initiative and its goals.

The Don Bosco Tech Africa Global Programme II kick-off workshop marked a significant step forward in enhancing vocational training in Sub-Saharan Africa. With a shared vision and collective effort, the program aims to create lasting positive impacts on the lives of young people, providing them with the skills and opportunities for a brighter future.
