Vicenta, a native of Alcoy, has been teaching Social Studies and Citizenship Education in the Salesian secondary school of Villena since September 2009. Previously she worked at the Salesian School of "Juan XXIII" at Alcoy.
She says she had decided to be very discreet, "I spoke to my students about my political activities only once. I explained that the struggle for a more just world is necessary. And that politics is a tool for this."
She came to politics with the 15M Movement. Speaking about the crisis of 2008 she says that we have been living beyond our means and the policies that were then taken by the government to resolve this provoked two reactions: on the one hand indignation and on the other the need to find answers to questions that arose. "For me it was crucial that in Spain we were facing, for the first time in a long time, a generation of young people who would have a lower standard of life than their parents. So I decided to get involved actively."
Ms Jimenez says she is very grateful to all those who with their vote and their work have helped to make her the first senator from Alcoy and claims that she will do "everything possible to ensure that the Senate meets the needs and the interests of the people."
