Cáceres, Brazil – August 2024 – The Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) in Cáceres on 31 August gave rise to a meeting with the youthful expressions of the Salesian presence in the city. The aim was to integrate and mutually support the different groups of young people who identify with Salesian youth spirituality. The SYM seeks to promote synergy between groups, providing joint action representative of the local mission, in order to meet the expectations and needs of young people in the current context. The event was attended by young students of the Salesian Santa Maria College, teachers, collaborators and faithful from the Salesian Holy Trinity Parish, including members of oratoriess, groups of altar servers and acolytes, youth ministry and other youth groups. The meeting was organised by Salesians, Aspirants and young leaders from the Salesian presence. During the day, the participants had times for spirituality, formation, Holy Mass, group dynamics, missionary sending of the participants to their respective groups and movements. The election of the Local SYM Council also took place. The Rector of the Salesian community, Fr Lauro Takaki Shinohara, and the Principal of the Salesian Santa Maria College, Salesian Brother Antônio Teixeira, also accompanied the young people with great dedication during the meeting. In the afternoon, those present had fun with games, swimming pool, music and dances, promoting coexistence and integration between the different participating groups.
Quito, Ecuador – September 2024 – The second day of the International Theological Symposium began with the Eucharist presided over by Bishop David De La Torre, SS.CC., Auxiliary Bishop of Quito, in the Maria Ausiliatrice Parish of El Girón. Subsequently, conferences were held that addressed several topics: "From brothers to enemies" by Dr. Vitória De Carli; "Called to reconciliation" by P. Damian Howard, SJ; "Eucharist: source and summit of fraternity" by Fr Pablo Blanco and finally "Eucharistic devotions and popular piety" by Dr. Rodrigo Guerra. This Symposium brings together men and women religious and lay people interested in the study of the Eucharist and the relationship of the Christian faith with social reality, in a spirit of fraternity.
Zagreb, Croatia – August 2024 – Five Salesians made their perpetual profession on 31 August in the parish of Mary Help of Christians in Knežija, Zagreb, during the solemn Eucharistic celebration: Karlo Ćuk, Pero Drmać, Luka Grgatović, Hrvoje Kolak and Tomislav Šimunović. The celebration was presided over by Fr Milan Ivančević, Superior of the Province of Croatia (CRO).
Nigeria – Fr Gianni Rolandi begins the Extraordinary Visitation to the Africa Nigeria Niger Province
Lagos, Nigeria – September 2024 - Fr Gianni Rolandi has arrived in Lagos to make the Extraordinary Visitation to the Salesian Africa Nigeria Niger Province (ANN). Fr Jorge Crisafulli, Superior of ANN Province, together with the Salesians welcomed Fr Rolandi on the evening of Sunday 1 September. The next day during the traditional "good night" at the headquarters of the Province, Fr Rolandi expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of the Salesians. He urged all the members of the ANN Province to pray for him so that he can successfully carry out his special task. The Extraordinary Visitation by Fr Rolandi will bring guidance and support to ANN Province, committed to the mission at the service of young people and the most vulnerable.
