Ecuador – 21 Young Missionary Volunteers Sent Forth: "We Are Life and Hope"

19 March 2025

Quito, Ecuador – March 2025 – Excitement and emotion filled the air as 21 young volunteers committed to dedicating a year of service to others. Gathered at Maria Madre del Buen Pastor Parish in Playas, they were officially sent off as "Costa" volunteers, assigned to various Salesian communities to bring hope and service to those in need.

The missionary sending Mass was celebrated by Fr. Juan Flores, the Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Ecuador (ECU). In his homily, he encouraged the young volunteers to embrace their journey with joy, optimism, and Gospel-driven commitment.

Expressions of enthusiasm, joy, nervousness, and gratitude were visible on the volunteers’ faces as they embarked on this transformative mission, trusting that God will guide them to the right places.

At the conclusion of the Eucharistic celebration, the volunteers received a blessing before setting out to bring life and hope wherever they go, fulfilling their guiding motto:
"Volunteers, We Are Life and Hope."
