Italy – Presentation of “The Most Beautiful Letters of Don Bosco” in Florence
Florence, Italy – March 2025 – On March 15, at the Federation of Italian Writers (FUIS- Federazione Unitaria Italiana Scrittori), the Artist’s Palace in Florence hosted another presentation of the book "The Most Beautiful Letters of Don Bosco", following previous events in Civitavecchia and Rome.
Published by LDC, this volume features a selection of 250 letters, carefully curated by Fr. Francesco Motto, who also edited the 10-volume critical edition of Don Bosco’s correspondence, published by the Pontifical Salesian University (1992-2024).
Fr. Francesco Motto discussed the book alongside:
Dr. Natale Antonio Rossi, President of FUIS Cinzia Angelucci, longtime secretary and collaborator at the Salesian Historical Institute, who played a key role in the 30-year editorial project involving over 5,000 letters
The Florence event, streamed live, included readings of letters Don Bosco sent to government officials, archbishops, and benefactors, including Countess Girolama Uguccioni, one of the four women Don Bosco referred to as "mothers". A commemorative plaque remains at her Florentine palace, marking the saint’s residence there.
Don Bosco visited Florence 23 times between 1865 and 1887, and his presence in the city was documented in two volumes by the late Fr. Antonio Miscio (1991, 2011).
