Brazil - The Salesian Artisan Bakery Social Project expands to three more cities
Belo Horizonte, Brazil - December 2024 - In 2000, the Salesian St John Bosco Province of Belo Horizonte (BBH), created a free training project on baking. Aimed at young people and adults in socially vulnerable situations, the Salesian Bakery Social Project aims to create a new source of income and opportunities for personal and community transformation. In its 24 years of existence, the project has created more than 10,000 artisan bakeries and trained more than 100,000 people. At the end of November, a meeting was held in Brasilia to expand the project to three other Salesian presences in the cities of Belo Horizonte and Pará de Minas, in the state of Minas Gerais, and in Palmas, in the state of Tocatins. On 3 December, a formation meeting was held with the formators in these cities on the historical context of bread-making and essential hygiene practices. It also included collaborative practice in the production of various types of bread. The Salesian Unit of the Federal District, CESAM-DF, has been a partner in the project since August.
