India - Salesian Agricultural Institute of Sulcorna produces organic jaggery
Panjim, India - April 15, 2021 - Sulcorna's "Don Bosco College of Agriculture" (DBCA), a Salesian agricultural institute in the India-Panjim Province (INP), has begun production of "jaggery," a traditional form of unrefined sugar, by extracting it from sugarcane grown on campus only with organic fertilizer. "The production of jaggery, particularly without using chemical substances, is an added value for sugarcane farmers because they can derive more income from it," said Dr. Kunkalikar, Dean of DBCA. "We produced about 150 kg of jaggery in a single day and it is selling at Rs. 120 per kilogram," he added. "The DBCA is willing to help sugarcane growers and farmers in Goa to produce jaggery and share the technology with them and install small commercial jaggery production units on demand," he concluded. Under its Swayampurna Goa program, the DBCA plans to expand jaggery production to help farmers and growers.
