Which pages of Scripture help us to focus on young people?
I would say all, because the important thing is not to whom we direct our gaze, but if our vision represents the gaze of God.
What role in the predication of the Reign of God does Jesus' preference for children play?
A decisive role, even if normally little appreciated. Jesus' preference for children is, in the first place, a sign of God's 'weakness' towards the weakest; with His privileged treatment for them, Jesus reveals His Father's choices. And secondly, this attitude makes of the child, helpless and insignificant, the example and measure of the conversion of the disciple who wishes to enter the Kingdom.
What teaching can the Gospel figure of the so-called "rich young man" give us?
He does not follow Jesus, he who is good: that young man was so good as to move Jesus when he tells him he has fulfilled all the law since his youth. Nor are they who follow Jesus simply those who are called and loved by Him: we must love Jesus more than anyone else, more than anything else. If we have something so dear that we cannot lose it, we end up losing Jesus and the good God.
The Synod puts discernment at the center, for which it is necessary to know and pray the Word of God. Can this be an opportunity to give greater impetus to the Bible among young people?
It should be. To discern is to discover the imprint, the passage of the God living in one's own existence and in human history. But God is only appreciable in His Word. Those who do not listen to it - and to listen to it, we must venerate it and pray it - do not meet with Him.
