An ordinary Jubilee that marks the 27th step in the long history of this important event for the Catholic Church, for the Salesians who, under the protective wing of Don Bosco and the guidance of Pope Francis, are called, like everyone, to remain "anchored in hope, pilgrims with young people".
A special celebration that falls precisely in the year of the 150th anniversary of the departure of the first ten Salesian missionaries from Genoa to South America, sent by Don Bosco with the blessing from the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin on 11 November 1875.
1875 was also a Holy Year. It was the period of the end of the temporal power of the Popes, for this reason the jubilee was celebrated in a reduced form. Don Bosco participated.
Even after the death of Don Bosco, particularly important jubilees were celebrated in Salesian history.
A special mention should be made of the extraordinary jubilee celebrated from 2 April 1933, the Sunday before the Passion, to 2 April 1934, Easter Monday. The solemn canonisation of Don Bosco took place on April 1st, Easter Sunday,.
