The UN report on world hunger: one in 10 people is without food

Climate change, with extreme heatwaves, rising sea levels, floods and droughts, cause acute levels of food insecurity. The UN estimated that last year, 783 million people, or more than 9% of the world's population, suffered from chronic hunger and more than 333 million people faced acute levels of food insecurity, an increase of almost 200 million people compared to pre-Covid levels.

As reported by Avvenire in this article, FAO has estimated that in 2030 almost 600 million people will still suffer from hunger.

In addition, the deterioration of local food systems and livelihoods, which depend on a safe and stable climate, causes population displacement.

To help people who suffer from hunger, among others, as reported by Fides in the annual report on the statistics of the Catholic Church the Catholic Church manages  14,205 dispensaries, 15,276 homes for the elderly, the chronically ill and people with disabilities, 9,703 orphanages, 10,567 kindergartens, 3,287 social education or re-education centres and 35,529 other social institutions.
