For Catholics, September is the month of the Bible, as it closes with the feast of St. Jerome, which is celebrated today, 30 September.

St. Jerome dedicated his entire life to the study of Scripture and is best remembered for having created the Vulgate, that is, the Latin translation of the Bible.

The main stages of translation:

In 382 in Rome, St. Jerome is encouraged by Pope Damasus to devote himself to biblical activity.
In 384, a revision of the 4 Gospels on the original Greek text began.
From 390 to 405, he dedicated himself to the Old Testament.

From the sixth century, the Vulgate becomes the hegemonic version of the Western Latin Church.

The name is due to the Latin wording vulgata editio, that is "edition for the people".
