(ANS - Rome) - On Thursday, October 12, the inaugural ceremony of the 2017-2018 academic year of the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) took place in the presence of numerous religious, civil and military authorities. The day's theme: "Listening and Walking." "True listening always starts and pushes us to take or resume the journey," said Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major and SPU Grand Chancellor, in the homily of the Mass presided by him.

(ANS - Rome) - Tomorrow, Thursday, October 12, will be the inauguration of the new Academic Year, 2017-2018, of the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS). The program features two different events in two distinct locations.

(ANS - Sao Paulo) - Two Salesian Provinces in two weeks, with several thousand kilometers of travel by plane and by car to visit and animate over twenty Salesian works: this is the scale of the journey the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, is undertaking in Brazil, from October 14-27, to the Salesian Provinces of Sao Paulo and Recife.

(ANS – New York) – On Monday, September 25, 2017, the Salesians of Don Bosco co-sponsored a panel discussion on migration and trafficking of children at the U.N. In the context of the current development of the Global Compact on Migrants and the review of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Human Trafficking, a panel of experts addressed the crosscutting nature of the causes of child trafficking within the broader 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

(ANS - Genzano di Roma) - From September 28 to October 1 at Genzano di Roma, the second seminar on Salesian Personal Accompaniment - the first took place in April 2016 - saw 32 Salesians from 7 regions and 12 different nationalities taking part. It is a joint initiative of the two ministries of Formation and Youth Ministry.

(ANS - Bratislava) - "To donate life for the brothers was the ideal of Blessed Tito Zeman. He was arrested because he helped seminarians and priests to expatriate to live their apostolic ideal. His imprisonment was transformed into a sacrifice of redemption for others." These are some of the passages of the intense homily expressed by Cardinal Angelo Amato, SDB, representative of the Pope and Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, during the Eucharist celebrated on Saturday, 30 September, in Bratislava on the occasion of the beatification of Titus Zeman, Salesian priest, martyr.

(ANS - Bratislava) - There is only one day left to the solemn beatification of the Venerable Servant of God, Fr Titus Zeman. The liturgy will be presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, SDB, the Pope's representative and Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Among other participants, there will be the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, two of Fr Zeman's sisters, several nephews and nieces, friends and past pupils, as well as Fr Alois Pestun, 89, the last surviving member of the Salesian youths for whose vocation Fr Zeman pledged to save.

(ANS - Ayacucho) - The history of the Salesians in Ayacucho began over 75 years ago when the first Sons of Don Bosco arrived in the city of Huamanga, Ayacucho's capital, to help in the formation of priests. At the time, they initiated major works for the benefit of children, teenagers and young people. This year, they celebrated the anniversary of their presence in the "City of the 33 Churches" in the "Home of Liberty of Latin America" in grand fashion.

(ANS – Guwahati) – The 12th Annual National Seminar of Youth at Risk (YaR) on the theme “Restorative Justice and Children” was held at the Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati, on 18 and 19 September.

(ANS - Turin) - Yesterday, Sunday, 24 September, at the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin, 22 Salesians of Don Bosco and 15 Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) received the Missionary Cross and prepared to depart to their assigned destinations as missionaries.
