In his message to the Ayacucho's Salesians, youths and Salesian Family, the Rector Major wrote: "By examining the history of the Salesians in Ayacucho, I read of that memorable 1942 when the beloved bishop, Víctor Álvarez Huapaya, SDB , founded the 'San Juan Bosco' school. Then, an Italian missionary, with the charism and strength of the Don Bosco Preventive System, educated generations of students in that same school: I speak of Fr Luigi Fassio, who was born in Asti Vallandona-Italy, and died in Peru. It is a grace that his remains remain in the church of San Agustín, entrusted to us to this day."
The celebration of 75 years of Salesian activities in Huamanga concluded with the presence of delegations from the Salesian houses from across the country, all of whom came to partake of this great event; with them, Msgr. Salvador Piñeiro, the city's Archbishop, and Salesian Provincial, Fr Manolo Cayo.
One of the celebration's most emotional moments was during the commemoration of the Salesians who had spent their lives and donated their spiritual and pastoral strength to the city. In their honor, a gala event in the Huamanga Municipal Theater was held. Fr Ronny Ayala, the current Salesian House Director, thanked the authorities and the Salesian Family for their presence; the names of the great directors mentioned: Fr Guillermo Salas, Fr Augusto Pinto, Fr Sixto Moriones, Fr Wenceslao Echevarría, Fr José Antúnez de Mayolo ...
Finally, the thanksgiving celebrants also received the Pope's blessing, sent for the entire Salesian Family of Ayacucho.
