Piura, Perù – June 2016 – Hundreds of children, adolescents and youth at social risk of the district of Castilla, in Piura, since 2005 are beneficiaries of “Juan Soñador” Salesian Oratory, a formative proposal of the Salesians of Don Bosco College in Piura, which targets their human and Christian formation and the development of their artistic and communicative skills. Thanks to the funding of Caritas Italy, the Don Bosco Foundation of Perù improved the laboratories of music and audio-visual media, thus offering the youth more musical instruments, microphones and other gadgets to help them develop their capabilities.
Mendoza, Argentina – June 2016 – The Salesian House of Don Bosco in Rodeo del Medio (Mendoza), belonging to the Province of North Argentina (ARN), has been declared by the Argentinian legislative organ a place of patrimonial tourist interest as the “Cradle of Argentinian Oenology”, giving life "to the emblematic institution of viticulture of Mendoza and at a national level, as a school of formation of great oenologists”. Recently the new wine cellar was inaugurated, with a capacity of 600.000 liters, which is completed with the oldest wine cellar in Mendoza and with the only wine tower of Latin America. At present, 500 young pupils study viticulture and oenology at the Institute.
Szczyrk, Poland – June 2016 – From May 27th to 29th, at the Marian Sanctuary of Szczyrk, 75 Salesian Cooperators of different local centres of the Province of Cracow (PLS), participated in the Days of Spirituality of Salesian Cooperators, on the theme “Embraced by the merciful look of Mary, we contemplate the face of Merciful Jesus”. During these days, various papers were read on diverse themes and there was also a mention of the forthcoming YWD in Cracow. The Association was also enriched with 4 new members who, on May 29th, during the Eucharist pronounced their promises
Messina, Italy – June 5th, 2016 – On June 5th, in the “Stella Maris” Parish, Salesian confrères Domenico Muscherà (ISI), Josephat Orota (AFE) and Marco Aiello (ISI), were ordained deacons through the imposition of hands and the consecratory prayer of Msgr. Calogero La Piana, SDB, Archbishop Emeritus of Messina.
São Paulo, Brazil - June 2016 - On 1 June the Salesian Fr Ladislau Klinicki celebrated his 102nd birthday. He was born in Poland on 1 June 1914. In 1939 when he was already a seminarian, he left for Rome to study theology. Because of World War II he was arrested in Rome by the German army, together with the whole Salesian community on 4 March 1942. After a tough interrogation, the allegations were proved false. "The greatest spiritual help for all of us was to trust in the mercy of God in prayer," says Fr Ladislau in his memoir entitled "One step from death." Ordained a priest in Warsaw in 1943, he escaped death several times in Nazi concentration camps. He moved to Brazil in 1985 and currently resides in the Santa Tersinha community of São Paulo.
Bogotá, Colombia - May 2016 – The third "Bosco Parque" took place on 27 May in the square of the Shrine of El Niño Jesús. It was organized by the youth ministry team of the Juan del Rizzo Salesian College. In an atmosphere of typical Salesian joy, teachers and their pupils joined in musical and artistic performances and also games involving several passers-by.
