Guadalajara, Mexico - September 2016 - On 2 September there was a meeting of the Salesians (MEM and MEG) and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (MME and MMO) who are part of the inter-provincial educative and pastoral teams. These include the National Salesian pastoral team, the National Salesian Vocation Animation team, and the National Salesian Education team. The objectives of the meeting were to get to know each other, to share and reinforce their common project, to decide on initiatives for collaboration and to formulate a comprehensive joint pastoral proposal.
Munich, Germany - September 2016 - From 1 September the community "San Bartolomeo" of the Salesians in Istanbul, Turkey, is no longer part of the Middle East Province (MOR) but of the Province of Germany (GER). On the occasion of this change the Rector of the Salesian House in Istanbul, Fr Jacky Doyen, and three other Salesians visited the German Province from 30 August to 2 September. In addition to the main issues and organization, there was a visit to the Salesian House of Munich and the monastery of Benediktbeuern, as well as interviews with the German Provincial, Fr Josef Grünner and meetings with German Salesians.
La Paz, Bolivia - August 2016 - From 15 to 19 August the El Prado Don Bosco College celebrated the 120th anniversary of its founding. The students participated in various formative, artistic and recreational activities and contests. The Rector, Fr José Iriarte, presided at the Mass in honour of Don Bosco. The festivities concluded with performances by the music bands of the college.
Montagna Gebbia, Italy - August 2016 – The Leaders’ Camp in Sicily took place from 25 to 28 August. This year there were two sections – one for young people from Secondary School and one for university students. The camp was organized by the Salesian Youth Movement in Sicily under the guidance of Sister Assunta di Rosa FMA, Provincial Councillor for Youth Ministry and Fr Domenico Luvara, SDB, Provincial Delegate for Youth Ministry. At the camp for secondary school pupils there were about 160 teenagers aged between 14 and 18 years, while at the camps for university students there were about 40 young people.
Tegucigalpa, Honduras - September 2016 - The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, arrived in Honduras on 1 September. In the afternoon he met the Salesian Family and the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement at San Miguel.
Kolkata, India - 1 September 2016 - Sr Lysa Assistant General of the Missionaries of Charity spoke to Fr Johny Nedungatt SDB, on his visit to the tomb of Mother Teresa. “Ever since the abduction of Fr Tom Uzhunnalil in Yemen, we as a community pray daily for Fr Tom’s well-being and his speedy release. We are writing his name on this black board, so that the sisters are reminded to pray for him daily. Intercessory prayers are being offered for Fr Tom. Usually we do not keep photos on the tomb of our dear Mother, but we have placed a photo of Fr Tom on the tomb, close to the statue of our Blessed Mother, and have exhorted our sisters all over the world to keep praying for the safe release of Fr Tom.”
