Pondicherry, India - April 2018 - From 24 to 28 April, the "Don Bosco Youth Empowerement Service" organized an animation camp for 150 altar boys from 19 parishes in the Salesian Province of Chennai (INM), led by Fr Mani Lazar and others Salesians, assisted by 20 animators.
Maputo, Mozambique - April 2018 - On April 29, in the presence of the Delegates for Youth Ministry of the Salesians and of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, respectively Fr Francisco Pescador Hervás and Sr. Bendita Gaspar, the first ordinary meeting of the new Council of the Salesian Youth Movement of Maputo was held. Formed this year, after a period of inactivity, the new SYM Council, chaired by Mônica Floriano Manda, set as targets the increase of SYM membership and the organization of joint initiatives in the FMA Province and in the SDB Vice-Province. Among the initiatives already scheduled are the Salesian Youth Forum, in Moamba, on 28-29 July 2018, and the SYM Day of 28 October, in a location still to be established.
Concepción, Chile - May 2018 - In the context of the Extraordinary Visitation of the Chile Province, Fr Guillermo Basañes, General Councilor for the Missions, went to the Salesian Institute of Concepción, the first Salesian presence in the country, in early May. Fr Basañes shared the Salesian "good day" with the entire college; his words centered on the holiness of Saint Dominic Savio and on his personal experiences, which led him to know other cultures and how holiness is lived in other countries. In the institute's 125 years of existence, thanks to the Salesian Family of Concepción, there have been thousands of young people and families who have participated and experienced the spirituality of Don Bosco. On their visit to meet with Fr Basañes, a book narrating the history of the Salesian presence, written by Fr Alfonso Horn, SDB, was given to him along with a scarf representing all the students of the school.
Cau Bong, Vietnam - April 2018 - On April 24-25, 150 catechists from the parishes of Saigon and the surrounding areas took part in an inter-parochial camp on the theme "With God I will go". The event was organized by the Salesians of the "Domenico Savio" community of Cau Bong, assisted by prenovices and Salesian aspirants.
Tlazala, Mexico - April 2018 – Sixty-six lay people who collaborate in the Salesian mission in the various centers of the Mexico City Province (MEM) took part in the second-level Salesianity course. Organized by Fr Paulo Armando Morales, the Provincial Delegate of Youth Ministry, the course took place 26-29 April.
Mumbai, India - May 2018 - On 3 May, the Salesian "Don Bosco Development Society", under the auspices of the "MGL Disha Project", organized a free medical field during which 164 people - including children, young people and women of the shantytowns of the eastern suburbs of Mumbai - underwent medical visits and clinical examinations.
