Chumphon, Thailand – January 2024 – On 27 January the first 50 years of the Catholic community of Chumphon were commemorated at the Church of the Conversion of St Paul, led by the parish priest Fr Nopphorn Joseph, SDB. The celebration, which was attended by numerous faithful, diocesan religious and the Sisters Handmaids of the Immaculate Heart of Mary – 14th group of the Salesian Family –, was presided over by Bishop Joseph Prathan Sridarunsil, SDB, bishop of the Diocese of Surat Thani. Fifty years ago, in 1973, the then Bishop of Surat Thani, Bishop Peter Carretto, SDB, planned to make Chumphon the pastoral centre between Baan Saeng Arun and Surat Thani and chose Fr Natale Mane, SDB, to start Catholic works in the province. Fr Mane, who became the first parish priest of Chumphon, together with the assistant parish priest Fr Sanong Chornthong, built the rectory, the chapel dedicated to St Paul and the youth centre, and the Catholic community grew continuously to become what it is today.

Hyderabad, India – January 2024 – The event called "Echoes", the Youth Synod of the Salesian Province of India-Hyderabad (INH), was celebrated in recent weeks, divided into two phases. The first phase took place on 13 and 14 January at the BIRDY centre (the Salesian Institute of Research and Development for Young People), with the participation of 140 young people and 12 Youth Coordinators from the Telangana and Rayalaseema areas. The second was held on 26 and 27 January at the Don Bosco Chiguru Children's Village, near Vijayawada, involving 170 young people and ten Andhra Pradesh Youth Coordinators. The theme of both meetings was: "Walking together with young people in the Church and in society" and in both phases topics such as the Salesian Youth Movement, the role of young people in society and in the Church, the profile of young people in leadership and in the mass media and the renewal of Youth Ministry in the Province were addressed. Particular attention was paid to mutual listening, sharing, discernment, the journey and accompaniment. Also present at the event were Fr Thomas Santiagu, INH Provincial and Fr Garlapati Michael Kishore, Vice-Provincial, who presented Strenna 2024 to the participants.

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – January 2024 – The Don Bosco Education System (DBES) institutions in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands have proposed to introduce a common Salesian formation for lay missionary educators in the Port Moresby area, before the start of the 2024 academic year. This proposal was made by Sister Mazzarello Choi, Caritas Sisters of Jesus (SCG), during the recent DBES meeting held at the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Simbu at the end of last year. In response to this appeal, the first "Common Salesian Formation" was organised on 24 and 25 January, made possible thanks to the commitment of Fr Ariel Macatangay, SDB, who led the event. Almost 120 people took part, coming from different Salesian schools. The topics presented revolved around the fundamental principles of the Don Bosco Preventive System. Among the many contributions, worthy of mention is the one by Fr Gregorio Bicomong, Superior of the Salesian vice-Province of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands (PGS), who explored the context of the Preventive System and its relationship with Don Bosco's vocational dreams.

Rome, RMG - 31 January 2024 - The Salesian Congregation's Sector for Social Communication, on the occasion of the feast of St John Bosco, has made videos in several languages that present 20 graphics on some of the most famous sayings of Don Bosco. The videos are available on ANSChannel's language channels, on YouTube.

Czaplinek, Poland – January 2024 - From 15 to 19 January 2024, the Salesian-run Oratory of St John Bosco in Czaplinek organised a winter camp for children. The leader of this recreational event was Fr Michał Kwiatkowski, SDB, assisted by Sister Marta Napora, FMA, Sister Joanna Jach, FMA, and the leaders. 49 participants, including children and young people, enthusiastically took part in the various activities of integration, a trip to the forest district of Czaplinek, a trip to Piła at the Bowling Rodło for bowling and pizza, indoor sports activities, a trip to an Alpaca Farm in Dębołęka with bonfire and sausages, film screening in Połczyn-Zdrój. There was plenty of time for singing, group activities, prize competitions, art lessons, riddles, snow games and fun. Every day began with prayer and at the end of daily activities there was a "Salesian Goodnight".

Cebu, Philippines – January 2024 – On 26 January, the Parish Youth Coordination Council of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes facilitated another formation session on life and youth issues, this time on the theme “Identifying Emotional Abuse in the Family.” More than 150 young members of different youth groups of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), recipients of youth scholarships and other parishes participated in the meeting at the Youth Centre gym. Mrs. May Margaret Sim shared her experience in recognising emotional abuse within the family and how to deal with it. Ms. Sim, counselor and psychologist, also taught young people how to cope with and avoid emotional trauma. Fr Fidel Ma. Orendain, SDB, Superior of the Salesian Province of the Southern Philippines (FIS), spoke at the event as part of the provincial visit to the parish. Also present are young people from neighbouring parishes in order to involve a wider youth population.
