Anisakan, Myanmar – May 2024 – At the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, in the Anisakan-Nazareth school complex, on 23 May, four young Salesians made their first profession during a celebration presided over by the Superior of the Salesian Vice-Province of Myanmar (MYM), Don Bosco Nyi Nyi. Addressing the four young Salesians - Joachim Htoi San Aung, Maung Cyprian, Francis Van Lian Thang, Francis Lal Pek Lawn - the MYM Superior recalled that "vocation is a matter of love" and thanked the Lord for the new vocations in Myanmar.
Shillong, India – May 2024 – On the morning of 24 May during a touching ceremony, 28 Salesian novices from Don Bosco Sunnyside Novitiate in Shillong made their first professions. The celebration was presided over by Fr John Zosiama, Superior of the Province of Shillong India (INS) and involved numerous faithful, priests, men and women religious, as well as the parents and relatives of the novices. The ceremony marked a significant stage in the journey of these young Salesians, who chose to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the service of God and humanity.
Guatemala City, Gautemala - May 2024 – On 19 May the CEJUSA Salesian Youth Centre at the Salesian Theologate in Guatemala City was filled with joy and fervour when it welcomed about 400 participants to the National Meeting of Salesian Oratories. The event began with a solemn Eucharist concelebrated by Fr Alejandro Hernández, SDB and Fr Gabriel Romero, SDB, responsible for youth ministry. This moment of reflection and faith marked the beginning of a day full of emotions and learning. After the Mass, the participants enjoyed a lively welcome meeting, followed by a stimulating formative moment focused on Don Bosco's childhood dream, a fundamental piece of Salesian spirituality. A snack was then offered to recharge and prepare for the many activities planned. The day was diversified with moments of play for the little ones, a football tournament and a Zumba session. The animation continued with dynamics and dances that involved all the oratories, strengthening the bonds of friendship and community. Finally, the day ended with the traditional "Goodnight" and lunch.
Seoul, Korea - 24 May 2024 - A missionary dispatching Mass was held at 3 p.m. on 22 May at the Salesian Historical Hall Chapel on the 3rd floor of the provincial house in Seoul. The three lay missionaries are Moses Kim Yang-seok (60) and Paul Ahn Jae-run (60), who will be going to Lilongwe, Malawi, and Francisca Hyun-joo (61), who will be going to Poipet, Cambodia. Prior to their departure, they completed a three-day intensive course on Salesian lay mission offered by the Mission Office and will depart respectively on 28 May (Malawi) and 7 June (Cambodia).
Nairobi, Kenya – May 2024 - Nineteen deacons were ordained at the in Don Bosco Thelogate in Utume, Nairobi, by Archbishop Philip Nyolo, Archdiocese of Nairobi. There were 14 Salesians of Don Bosco and 5 from the Mariannhill Missionary Congregation. During his homily, the Archbishop urged the deacons to serve the Lord with joy and to serve him with the spirit of the diaconate throughout their lives. Present at the ceremony was Fr George Tharaniyil, Provincial of East Africa (AFE), who thanked the Archbishop and congratulated the 19 deacons for the great step taken.
Kansebula, DR Congo – May 2024 - From 20 to 23 May, the Salesians of Don Bosco of the Province of Central Africa (AFC) celebrated the 22nd Provincial Chapter for four intense days. The assembly was focused on the theme of the next GC29. Key figures were the Provincial, Fr Guillermo Basañes and Frs Didier Umbi, and Dieudonné Besa. There were 62 Chapter members and three young deacons as part of the secretariat team. Among the various phases of the work, the report on the status of the Province by Fr Basañes, the reports of the Provincial Delegates of the various sectors, plenary discussions of the three core areas of GC29 and voting on resolutions for each module and the elections of the two delegates to the GC29 and their replacements,Fr Gauthier Tshibangu and Fr Tryphon Kalimira, and Frs Marc Nawej and Didier Umbi respectively.
