SPECIAL REPORTS
(ANS - Nova Xavantina) - The Xavante are an ethnic minority in Mato Grosso, Brazil. Before the 1900s, the only news about them came from the chronicles of explorers. After the first clashes with gold seekers, they refused any contact with “the whites” and took refuge in Mato Grosso. The Salesians decided to bring their educational and evangelizing mission to them and, not without difficulty, they succeeded.
(ANS - Bangalore) - Fraidy Reiss is the Director of "Al Fin Sin Cadenas", (In the end, without chains) an organization that fights to eradicate the marriage of minors in the United States. She defines it as "a frightening situation" the fact that "across the globe over 700 million women currently married were married when they were still young girls." India was indicated by George T., of CBN, as "the world capital of early marriage". Salesians support these girls with the "CREAM" program of the Bangalore Salesian NGO "BREADS."
(ANS - Bangkok) - Thailand and Vietnam: two neighboring but very different countries, and in which the Salesians have had a very different path; in common, however, there is the service of the Sons of Don Bosco to young people, which has continued for decades, with great attention to professional training.
(ANS - Rome) – "A life-long love begins again every day." Here is the essence of love, the essence that Fr A.M. Carré condensed into a single maxim that he would always repeat to couples during their wedding cerimony: "spouses forever, remaining engaged." And how do you manage to stay loyal to your spouse a whole lifetime? Through love in the rituals of every day: by a kiss, a greeting, a hug and a thousand gestures that are rituals and that should never become routine. The Rector Major in the Strenna for 2017 invites building a family through the rituals of every day, by living "a love that is faithful, everlasting and open to life."
