SPECIAL REPORTS
(ANS - Rome) - Millions of citizens from Europe and other Western countries are experiencing moments of great pessimism and anxiety, moments dominated by social tensions and uncertainty about the future. In this hazy scenario, the media forget important and positive events. There is one in particular that deserves mention: "the best news you don't know," according to the definition of Nicholas Kristof, the “New York Times” journalist.
(ANS - Rome) - In our world, in our families, with those around us we need amiability; more so with young people. We need to ask it as a gift, and to increase it as a virtue and through gestures that favor communication, relationships and make God's love evident. It all begins with a kind word, or a subtle, kind, courteous, loving detail.
(ANS - Granada) - Narciso Sequeira Arellano (1851-1923), originally from Granada, Nicaragua, was the first Salesian in Central America. He decided to enter the Salesian Congregation in 1895. He was 44, single and ridding himself of his wealth.
(ANS - Budapest) - "Hungary is currently the world's smallest Salesian Province with only 34 Salesians, but it has a very brilliant future ahead of it. Prior to the advent of the communist regime in 1948, the Hungarian Province had more than 200 consecrated persons, including many missionaries and General Council members. But under - and after - the 40-year regime, vocational promotion was interrupted and the number of Salesians fell considerably. Since 2004, the Rector Major has sent a good number of missionaries from India, Poland and Vietnam. Some very significant Salesian works have been opened, and the recent vocational flow has increased."
