(ANS – Chuncheon) – Within the fast changing and ageing society of South Korea one of the youth main needs is without doubt a counselling. Children and teenagers find very few people who listen to them both in their families as well in the highly competitive school education system. Also the increasing youth violence and suicide attempt rate in South Korea does foster need of more systematic and dedicated counselling center. Salesian Family members (especially SDB, FMA sisters and Salesian Cooperators) invested in past 15 year a lot of energies in this field.
(ANS - Rome) – On October 12, 1717, exactly 300 years ago, the discovery of the statue of Our Lady, which gave birth to the devotion to the Virgin of Aparecida, took place at Porto Itaguaçu, in today's state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Since then, the Brazilian people have always grown up in loyalty and filial love towards their Patroness.
(ANS - Calcutta) - Kanchan Kumari Sao is one of the many Indian girls saved and educated by Salesian schools. She was set to be married at 16, but her illiterate father wanted her to continue her studies and, today, Kanchan wants to get into an all-female-run business, create job opportunities for the girls of her village and prevent them from getting married at a young age. On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl, celebrated today, October 11, her story wants to be and act as model to follow.
(ANS - Turin) - On July 3, 1938, at the FIAT factory in Mirafiori, the first stone of the "Edoardo Agnelli International Institute" was set. Dedicated to the memory of Edoardo, son of FIAT founder, Giovanni Agnelli, Edoardo died in a plane crash in 1935. Today, 80 years later, the extraordinary presence of Salesians in the heart of Turin's industrial district continues to pulsate in the Institute, which has grown in both its structural size and in the professional training on offer.
