SPECIAL REPORTS
(ANS - Rome) - For the Church, October represents a "missionary month". The missionary dimension is manifested from day one, with the liturgical memory of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, Patroness of the Missions and Doctor of the Church, and then reaches its peak on the third Sunday of the month, with World Mission Day. But October 2019 is special, because Pope Francis proclaimed it "an extraordinary missionary month".
(ANS - São Paulo) - The educators of the Salesian Youth Center "Don Bosco" in Alto da Lapa, São Paulo, held a meeting on a topic that cannot be ignored: "adolescent depression and suicide". The number of suicides is high, growing rapidly each year. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that "every 40 seconds, a person takes his own life" and that "more than 800,000 people commit suicide each year"; and concludes: "Over the past 45 years, suicide rates have risen 60% worldwide."
(ANS – New Rochelle) – It is said Catholic and Salesian schools ought to be “places of evangelization.” That’s a daunting task considering the large number of students of other faiths in our schools and the growing challenges to the faith education of present-day young Catholics.
(ANS - Guwahati) - The "Assam Don Bosco University" was founded in 2008 with the aim of "shaping intellectually competent young people, morally upright, socially committed and spiritually inspired to serve India and the world". The University was established to offer study programs relevant to the children of North East India, without neglecting their focus to social commitment. The objective of the "Assam Don Bosco University" is, and will always be, to form upright citizens, who can be active agents of social transformation in the future, wherever they are in the world.
