(ANS - Rome) - "We are children of a dreamer" is an expression often used by his successors to refer to the Founder of the Salesian Congregation and Family. And this is not only because of his ability to see far beyond his contemporaries, foreshadowing developments and realities that would be openly manifested only much later; but also because of that mystical ability of his to have as it were "supernatural visions" capable of directing his own path and that of those who followed him.
(ANS - Rome) - A week after the simple but touching funeral of Pope Benedict XVI, his memory remains ever alive among millions of the faithful, while many seek to deepen what legacy he leaves to the Universal Church. With a Salesian gaze, we delve today, through two of his speeches on the subject, into some of his considerations in the field of education.
(ANS – Lahore) – Pakistan is a country with some problematic issues, such as political instability, terrorism, poverty, and internal tensions. The Kashmir question between India and Pakistan remains unresolved. Furthermore, neighbouring Afghanistan creates refugee and terrorist infiltration problems. The Islamic religion is practiced by 96.5% of the population. Christians are only 1.5%, roughly half Catholic and half Protestant. In Lahore, in the district of Youhanabad where the Salesian house stands, there are many Christians. However, being a small minority, Christians have few opportunities within society.
(ANS - Buenos Aires) - Salesian Fr. Ernesto Vespignani was an eminent designer of Salesian churches and institutes in Argentina and elsewhere. Still today, numerous scholars and interpreters of religious aesthetics appreciate his work and contribution to the architecture of this sector, especially in the typical form that currently characterizes several urban centers, that of the "Salesian block" formed by church plus school.
