Angra do Heroísmo, Portugal - 1910 - In 1903, the Salesians took over the "João Baptista Machado" Orphanage on the island of Terceira, in the Azores. It was the first Salesian presence on the island, which was later enriched with an arts and crafts school for needy youngsters. Then, in 1910, the establishment of the Republic in Portugal led to the closure of the orphanage.
Barcelona, Spain - 1961 - A new sculpture dedicated to the Sacred Heart, 7.5 metres high, was inaugurated for the upper part of the Tibidabo Church in Barcelona. The statue, commissioned by the Salesians with sculptor Josep Miret, was modelled on the basis of the original sculpture, cast during the Spanish Civil War.
Comayagüela, Honduras - In this old photograph, posted on the Flickr account of the Salesian Bulletin of Central America, one can see the building that housed the Salesian San Miguel Institute, the first Salesian building located in the city of Comayagüela, Honduras, even back then. The date when the photograph was taken is not specified, but the San Miguel Institute was founded in 1911.
