(ANS - Ashaiman) – Salesians in Ghana had the support they need to facilitate pastoral work and social programs thanks to donor funding from Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The St. Joseph Province in Ashaiman received funding to purchase a car so that Salesians could travel among the Salesian centers in Ghana, Togo, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast. This enables Salesians to meet the needs of the various communities efficiently.
(ANS – Meruri) – The sixth edition of the Salesian Missionary Academic Volunteering (VAMS) project, promoted by the UniSalesiano Salesian institution of higher education in the Campo Grande Province of Brazil (BCG) brought together 50 participants, the highest number recorded in all editions, consolidating the significant participation of professors, students, coordinators and pastoral agents from the Salesian university. The group left Araçatuba for Mato Grosso on the evening of 27 June 2024 and returned to their headquarters on the morning of 8 July, after visiting and offering their services in the indigenous villages of Meruri, inhabited by the Bororo population, and São Marcos, inhabited by the Xavante population.
(ANS – Lahore) – In their celebrations, Christians in Pakistan use a fairly widespread booklet with the lyrics of hymns, or they rely on memory. However, until recently, there were no musical scores. To fill the gap, the Salesians have seen to the publication of a document in PDF, freely downloadable (Creative Commons 4.0 license), containing 126 of the most popular hymns.
(ANS – Paris) – While from all over the world the best athletes of all disciplines are converging on France, and on Paris in particular, the Olympic village dedicated to welcoming them, in the Saint-Denis area, is already ready. It includes houses, shops and a large park with 9,000 trees and shrubs that have been specially planted. But not only that: inside there is also a multi-religious centre in the form of a tent, similar to the "tent of meetings" that young people from Salesian circles have known in the Campobosco experience. Within this space there is a reception area and five different prayer rooms, which house the chaplains of the five main religions (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist). Specifically for the Christian chaplaincy, there will be Catholic chaplains – including Salesian Fr Xavier Ernst – as well as Protestants and Orthodox.
