RMG – Appointed the new Superior of the Province of Mexico-Mexico: Fr Juan Aarón Cerezo Huerta

(ANS - Rome) - The task of guiding the Salesian Our Lady of Guadalupe Province of Mexico-Mexico for the 2025-2031 six year period has been entrusted to Fr Juan Aarón Cerezo Huerta. The decision was taken by Fr Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, with the consent of the other members of the General Council, during their winter plenary meeting 2024-2025.

Fr Cerezo Huerta, now 56, was born on 29 June 1968 in Mexico City. After entering the Salesian novitiate in Coacalco in 1987, he made his first profession there on 16 June 1988, made his perpetual vows on 25 June 1994 in Mexico City, and was ordained a priest on 3 February 1996, in the same city.

He served in several communities in his Province, becoming Rector of the Marciano Tinajero y Estrada (IMTE) institute in Querétaro in 2002. After four years in this role, he continued his studies in Rome, at the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS), returning to his homeland in 2008, assigned to the community in Mérida, where, starting the following year, he was Rector for three years until 2012. From 2013 to 2019, he was Vice-Provincial and Parish Priest at the Salesian Youth Centre in Coacalco, then for three years, from 2021 to 2024, he was Rector of the María Auxiliadora house in Puebla, and since last September he has been Rector of the Provincial Centre in MEM.

Already Provincial Delegate for Schools between 2004 and 2006, last September he took on both the role of Delegate for Youth Ministry and the Salesian Family, directly accompanying the various groups of Past Pupils, Salesian Cooperators, the Association of Mary Help of Christians and the ‘Damas Salesianas’; he is also Regional Assistant for the Don Bosco Volunteers.

Fr Juan Aarón Cerezo Huerta will succeed Fr Ignacio Uribe Ocampo as Inspector, in office since 20 January 2019.
