As part of the celebration, Father Marcelo Farfán, SDB – Provincial of the Salesians in Ecuador – extended an emotional greeting, highlighting that the UPS represents the presence of Don Bosco in the university world, especially for young people from the popular sectors, indigenous peoples and communities, Quechua, Achuar, Shuar and Afro-descendants. He also highlighted the value and achievements that the university has built during these 30 years, ensuring a bright and promising future for youth.
One things that stands out most during these years is the University Ministry Programme which was approved on 4 August 1994. La Universidad en Pastoral 30 años, a book coordinated by Vinicio Ordoñe, D, Vicente Plasencia Ph.D and Roberto Briones Ph.D was presented within the framework of this celebration. The publication seeks to highlight the historical value, the processes learned and the achievements of a ‘ministry’ properly adapted to the reality of young people. The work comprises 3 chapters that are a testimony to the commitment to the life of each young person and a reminder of the commitment to continue with a university which, in addition to educating, also transforms; as shared by Fr. Juan Cárdenas, sdb – Rector of the UPS – in the introductory part of the book. (Download the post here.)
This event is an important opportunity for reaffirming the commitment of our Salesian presence to academic excellence and the integral development of UPS youth. Thank you to all those who have been part of this noble mission: students, teachers, administrative staff, and strategic allies. With an eye to the future, and inspired by the legacy of Don Bosco, we are prepared to face new challenges together with young people.
