Rome, Italy – June 2024 - On 22 June, at the Santa Maria della Speranza parish, nine Salesians of the Zeffirino Namuncurá International Community were ordained deacons by Bishop Daniele Salera, Auxiliary Bishop of Rome, Northern Sector. The new deacons, coming from the five continents, are a living expression of the interculturalism that characterises the Zeffirino House: Avil Dominic Correa (INB), Alex Jesús Pinilla (CAM), Erick Mwamodo Nyambu (TZA), Mikael Kanisius Konsensao (INA), Paweł Murias (PLS), Piotr Karos (ple), Raymmon Vale Dos Santos (BBH), Sebastião Dos Santos Monteiro (TLS) and Willy Ndayishimiye (AGL). Having parents from Timor Leste, Poland, Panama, Brazil plus other relatives and friends from Indonesia, Burundi, Rwanda made one feel the breadth of the universal Church and also the breadth and variety of the presence of the Salesian Congregation.

Hatyai, Thailand – June 2024 – Over 50 students from the Salesian SME programme, together with teachers and parents, offered to plant mangrove trees and release small crabs at the Mangrove Forest Conservation Club in the Singhanakhon district. The aim was to have a positive impact on the environment and to contribute, through tree planting, to reducing soil degradation, minimising erosion and improving air quality in the region. Reforestation is a new beginning to restore the balance of nature. Mangroves in particular are of great importance to the ecology, environment, society and economy of many countries. Involving the young students of Salesian schools in the activities of mangrove planting and the liberation of small crabs is a formative moment seeking to make them aware of their duty to take care of the earth and the environment.
