Soyapango, El Salvador – June 2016 – At the "Universidad Don Bosco" (UDB) was held the International Congress on Prosthetics and Orthotics, entitled “Week of O&P Workshops: Uniting Frontiers”. Through workshops, conferences, speeches and demonstrations of international specialists, the event aimed at providing a contribution to orthopaedic rehabilitation in order to improve the quality of life and the full integration in society of disabled people. About 160 professionals in this sector could be present at the exhibitions and demonstrations of innovative products of 14 international firms. UDB is the only institution in Latin America with a faculty certified by the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO).
Cuenca, Ecuador – May 2016 – On May 6th, the Salesians and the Municipality of Cuenca inaugurated, in front of the “Collegio Técnico Salesiano” a new statue of Don Bosco and a new small square dedicated to the Saint of the Youth. The place was done by the Municipality of Cuenca, and the statue is the work of David Pacurucu, an alumnus of the Salesian Polytechnic University of Cuenca.
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – June 2016 – from June 6th to 10t, at the “Don Bosco Technical School” of Gabutu, was celebrated the “Week of Science”, during which students interacted and did team work, with practical activities in which they applied the notions they had learned. Besides, the various classes presented their projects submitting them to a jury, participated in various scientific games and in the main event of the week, the scientific quiz game, “Knowledge is Power”.
Jabłonka, Poland – June 2016 – On June 4th and 5th, upon the initiative of the “Młodzi Światu” Missionary Salesian Volunteer Work of Cracow (PLS Province), and in collaboration with the Municipalities of Jabłonka and of Lipnica Wielka, the XV edition of the manifestation “Orawa for the Children of Africa” was held. The event, which this year is in favour of the children of Malawi, commenced with the greeting to the guests and with a concert. The next day, in the stadium of Jabłonka, the participants, and especially the children who were also celebrating their “Children's Day", could take part in the rich program: concerts, games, children’s fairy tales, prize awards to the winners of the various contests for schools, charity auctions and balloons for Africa.
