Mestre, Italy – June 2024 - The 3rd Youth Meeting of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) took place on 2 June at the Salesian House in Mestre, , an event that involved some 800 high school boys and girls from all over the Triveneto. The guiding theme of the meeting was Don Bosco's Dream at Nine Years of age with the motto: "You see further than I do". The day began with the arrival of the participants, welcomed with moments of animation to create an atmosphere of enthusiasm and community. The official introduction was accompanied by a prayer and a theatrical performance on Don Bosco's Dream. The young people then participated in a series of workshops on various topics: evangelisation, Artificial Intelligence, sports, music, social and influencers, etc. All were designed and held by the young people themselves, at the service of other young people, with the opportunity to explore various aspects of youth life, discuss current issues and receive stimuli for their personal and spiritual growth. After a break, the young people took part in Holy Mass, celebrated by the Superior of the Salesian Province Italy-North East (INE), Fr Igino Biffi. This moment of recollection and spirituality allowed young people to reflect on the importance of the Eucharist in their lives. In the afternoon, after the animation activities, a great photo treasure hunt followed. The day ended with a final moment of reflection, followed by greetings.
Astudillo, Spain – June 2024 – In the Salesian Santa Maria work in Astudillo (Palencia) almost one hundred people participated last weekend (1-2 June) in the last formation meeting to prepare for the Salesian Missionary Volunteering (VMS) course. For 47 people who completed the formation of the VMs, which began in October 2023, the missionary sending mass was celebrated on Sunday, 2 June. The celebration was presided over by Fr Fernando García, Superior of Spain's St James the Greater Province, presenting them with the missionary cross and a shirt with the theme "Volunteers forever". The volunteers who will leave in the coming months are destined for 18 works in 11 countries in Africa and America, and will participate in projects with children in vulnerable situations.
Asunción, Paraguay – May 2024 - Thousands of faithful, students of Salesian schools and members of the Salesian Family filled the square of the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Asunción to participate in the closing celebration of the month dedicated to Mary Help of Christians, with the motto "I will give you the Teacher". The celebration, which took place on 26 May, was presided over by Archbishop Edmundo Valenzuela, SDB, Archbishop Emeritus of Asunción, and concelebrated by Fr Gabriel Romero, Councillor for the America South Cone Region, Fr Mario Villalba, Superior of the Salesian Province of Paraguay (PAR), Fr Dionisio Medina, Rector of the Salesian community, and Fr Héctor Fariña, Rector of the Shrine. The celebration was also attended by priests from the various Salesian communities. At the end of the mass, those present accompanied the image of the Virgin in the torchlight procession through the streets adjacent to the Shrine. The manifestation of faith culminated with a great fireworks display.
Dili, Timor-Leste – May 2024 – After four days of prayer and reflection, the thirty-three Chapter members of the Salesian Timor-Leste Vice-Province and other representatives of the Salesian Family and the Salesian Youth Movement concluded the third Provincial Chapter, on 31 May 2024. The closing Mass was presided over by Fr Agostinho Soares, while Fr Anacleto Pires, TLS Superior, thanked the moderator, Fr João Boavida, the secretariat team, the Chapter members and all those present for their contribution to the upcoming GC29. These days also offered Chapter members the opportunity to develop and approve some resolutions, starting from the recommendations left by the Councillor for the East Asia-Oceania Region, Fr Joseph Phuoc, during his Extraordinary Visitation. Finally, Fr Plácido Freitas was elected by the assembly as Delegate who will participate in the GC29.
