Manta, Ecuador - May 12, 2016 - In the "12 de octubre" district of the area of Tarqui, Manta, no one was killed and the houses did not suffer major structural damage following the earthquake on 16 April. Devotees of Mary Help of Christians attribute this "miracle" to the presence of the statue of Our Lady who is the patron of the district. Mrs Josefa García Naranjo took the statue to her home and set up a small altar where every night the community gathers for a prayer of thanks.
Mumbai, India - May 9, 2016 - The Salesian "Tej-Prasarini - Don Bosco Communications" has started a course, led by Bosco Rodrigues, conductor for "FM Rainbow", which trains young people in the development of personality and public speaking . Each class is made up of 18 young people who spend 10 days in a number of training sessions: reading, diction, voice culture, vocabulary, presentation and education.
Bratislava, Slovakia - May 2016 - The 27th International Salesian Youth Games ended on 8 May. This was the first time the games were held in two countries, Slovakia and Austria, under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovakia, Andrej Kiska. The event was attended by about 1,000 young people from 13 countries, who competed in various sports, and 260 volunteers from the Salesian oratories of Slovakia. Fr Fabio Attard, Councillor General for Youth Ministry, presided over the Eucharistic celebration before the finals of the games. The participants then moved to Vienna for a guided tour and a cultural program at the "Salesian Gymnasium" of Unterwaltersdorf.
Montevideo, Uruguay - May 2016 - The feast of Saints Philip and James, the patrons of Montevideo, was celebrated on 7 May. The Eucharistic celebration, which was attended by about three thousand faithful, was presided over by Salesian Cardinal Daniel Sturla, Archbishop of Montevideo. Later, the cardinal met a group of young people and answered their questions.
