Brazil – The Xavante Community of Sangradouro Celebrates St. Joseph’s Feast with a Procession and Holy Mass
Sangradouro, Brazil – March 2025 – On the evening of Wednesday, March 19, elders, children, and young people of the Xavante community gathered at the chapel in the center of the village of Sangradouro. The occasion was the celebration of a deeply cherished liturgical feast: the Feast of St. Joseph, patron of the community and the Salesian parish in this mission.
The Holy Mass was presided over by the Rector of the Salesian community, Fr. Amércio Rezende de Oliveira, in the presence of the parish priest, Fr. Juan Carlos Uscola. The chapel, built in the shape of a traditional hut, was filled with the faithful. Next to the altar, a statue of St. Joseph was placed on a decorated canopy in preparation for the procession. The celebration was accompanied by hymns in the Xavante language.
At the end of the Mass, the faithful joined in a procession, following the statue of St. Joseph through the village while singing hymns and reciting prayers. The procession concluded at the heart of the community, where Fr. Rezende de Oliveira imparted a final blessing through the intercession of St. Joseph.
