United States – Four Salesian Students Honored: The Gospel Is Not Just a Message to Hear, but a Life to Live

21 March 2025

Rosemead, United States – March 2025 – On March 18, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles honored the vital role of young people in shaping a better world during the annual Catholic High School Christian Service Awards Mass and Ceremony. This event highlighted more than seventy young individuals who, inspired by the Gospel, are actively building a civilization of love.

Among the honorees were four outstanding students from Salesian schools: Luis Antonio Camacho from Don Bosco Technical Institute in Rosemead, Alexander Ramirez from Bishop Mora Salesian High School in Los Angeles, and Andrew Rios and Diego Salcedo from St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower.

Mr. Paul Escala, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese and a former Salesian student, praised these young leaders for their unwavering commitment to charity, love, and service. The Archbishop, in his homily, encouraged them to continue their transformative journey, particularly in serving the poor and marginalized.

These four Salesian students are change-makers in their communities and beyond. Through their service, faith, and leadership, they are building a legacy founded on the Gospel and guided by love and compassion. Whether through assisting orphans, leading summer camps, organizing youth center activities, teaching, or serving as catechists in their parishes, each student has responded to the call to be an agent of change, embodying Don Bosco’s mission. They are living proof that the Gospel is not just something to be heard but a way of life—one marked by radical love, service, and care for others.
