Peru - The Tamburini Organ in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Lima resumes its concerts in grand style

08 November 2023

Lima, Peru - November 2023 - 2023 will be remembered as the year in which the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Lima and its famous Tamburini Organ resumed their cultural activities at the service of education and the musical enjoyment of citizens. In fact, after the August concert entitled 'The Night of the Organ' by Peruvian Maestro Christian Hurtado Carrillo, on 6 November, under the patronage of the Italian Embassy, came the concert 'The Way of the Organ. From Renaissance to Classicism', by Italian Maestro Andrea Coen. It was a significant event, as it was the first concert by a foreign organist in the Shrine after the Covid-19 pandemic. The concert was part of the 20th Ancient Music Festival held in Lima, organised by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the National University of Music, the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute. After the meticulous restoration by Maestro organ builder Alejandro Rodríguez Jesusi, carried out between 2011 and 2016, the Tamburini Organ carried out an exceptional cultural programme between 2016 and 2019, thanks to the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute, with concerts by musicians brought from Don Bosco's homeland. The Tamburini Organ in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians was blessed on 15 March 1934 and is currently the largest working organ in Peru.
