Hi Francis! Could you please introduce yourself…
My name is Cleric Francis D. Trong Huu, I am 29 years old and I come from the Saint John Bosco Province of Vietnam (VIE). There are 7 in my family: my parents, three older brothers, an older sister and me. My destination is Chile, a South American country.
What inspired you to choose to become a missionary?
I've heard a lot about missionaries from my grandmother and parish priest. Also, I had the opportunity to talk to a Chinese missionary. He told me about the work of the Salesians who work there and I really admired what they do. Thanks to all this, I discovered God's will for me, especially with regard to my missionary vocation. So I decided to become a missionary.
Are you happy with where you are going? Do you have any fears or concerns about the new place, culture and people?
I felt so happy when I heard about the missionary destination, but I still have fears thinking about the novelty of the place and the context; I would be lying if I said otherwise. Besides, I am not perfect, I still have many limitations, but I am also convinced that God will help me overcome them.
What are your plans and dreams for your missionary life?
My dream is to be able to proclaim the Gospel of God to many people, especially those I will meet in my mission.
Do you have some great missionary role models in mind whose lifestyle you want to follow?
Christ is the perfect model to follow in my missionary life. In addition, I really like Saint Paul, the enthusiastic apostle of Jesus, and I would very much like to learn from him as well.
What is your message to young people about missionary choice and vocation?
To talk about this I would like to borrow the words of Jesus to the apostles: "Do not be afraid!"
