My name is Shivraj Bhuriya. I belong to Mumbai Province (INB), I am from India, and I have finished my two years of practical training.
What inspired you to make this choice to become a missionary?
The life of the early Salesians who came to India. By reading a lot of Salesian history and above all life and the struggles of Don Bosco. He comes from a simple and poor family and could do so much why can't I then?
Are you happy about the place where you are going? Have you any fears and inhibitions about the new place, culture and people?
I am happy about the new place as it brings you challenges and difficulties which reminds me of God and that life is not in my control it is God who looks after me and my needs. I need to rely on him all the time. I don't have any fears or inhibitions about the new place.
How did your family members, friends and confreres react when you told them about your missionary vocation?
I had been preparing my family members and friends for a year in advance about this choice so didn't have any problem. Received a lot of support from my Provincial and the confreres in the community.
What are your plans and dreams about your missionary life?
I am not going there with my plans and dreams but to make their plans and dreams mine and spread the good news through my daily actions.
Have you in mind any model of some great missionaries whose style and life you want to follow?
Yes, I was taken up by a great missionary Monsignor Mathias who was known for his work. I liked the motto that he gave to his companions "Dare and Hope". I want to take the same motto for my missionary life too.
What is your message for the young people about missionary choice and vocation?
The only message I want to give is "Dare and hope". Rest God will take care.
