Cracow, Poland - October 2017 - On October 14, a large number of pilgrims from the St Stanislaus Kostka parish of Dębniki, and other parishes, including non-Salesian, from Krakow, Lublin, Kielce, Racibórz, Pogrzebień, Kobyla, Kietrz, Toruń, Limanowa, completed the XIII Pilgrimage in the footsteps of Karol Wojtyła, Laborer. The faithful walked the streets from the Salesian Church of St Stanislaus Kostka, which was attended by Karol Wojtyła during his stay in Dębniki in the years 1938-1944 when he was a student and worked in the stone quarries of "Solvay", to the John Paul II Center, where the Eucharist was presided over by Fr Tadeusz Rozmus, Regional Councilor for Central and North Europe, with the homily of Fr Andrzej Gołębiowski.
Recife, Brazil - October 2017 - On October 10, the State Forum for the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor in the state of Pernambuco organized the "Fifth March against Child Labor", with the participation of the Salesian School "Escola Dom Bosco." Activities included: flash mobs, interactive round tables and itinerant shows and
theatrical performances, all with the aim of stimulating initiatives related to "Children's Week", and to raise awareness among the general public and the associations defending human rights. The "Escola Dom Bosco" has so far involved over 70 former child laborers in its apprenticeship program.
Lonavla, India - October 2017 - On October 24, at the Don Bosco school, the meeting of Scouts called "GROMO 2017" (Grow More) began on the topic: "Health, Harmony and Holiness." About 800 scouts and guides, with their respective leaders and captains, took part in the meet.
Santa Cruz, Bolivia - October 2017 - On 14 October, the priestly ordination of Salesian deacon Ángel Yapori Vaca took place via the laying on of hands by Mgr Sergio
Gualberti, archbishop of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and the event concelebrated by Fr Javier Ortiz, Superior of Bolivia Province (BOL).
Medellín, Colombia - October 2017 - On the afternoon of 26 October, Fr Francesco Cereda, Vicar of the Rector Major, accompanied by his Secretary, Fr Saimy Ezhanikatt, arrived in the Salesian Province of Medellín. Fr Cereda's visit focuses on two topics for reflection: the Rector Major's letter with regard to the 2016 Extraordinary Visit, and the reconfiguration of the Congregation and the Provinces. At the first meeting, he held talks with the Council and the community of the Provincial house with a discussion on working with lay people. He invited everyone "to reproduce a Church model wherein all existing vocation models are present, models which reciprocally support and complete each other with the objective of growing together in the Mission." Fr Cereda said, "For the Medellín Province, we do not think about working with lay people out of necessity, since there are Salesians and vocations, but we think about it as a possibility of growing together."
Sesto San Giovanni, Italy - October 2017 – On Monday 23 October, Hon Mariastella Gelmini (second from the right of the photo), a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and former Minister of Education, visited the Salesian house in Sesto San Giovanni, of the Lombardy-Emilia Province (ILE), to observe the development of post-diploma ITS courses. To welcome her, the director, Fr Elio Cesari, and several members of the Lombard CNOS-FAP. The visit was an opportunity to visit the Sesto educational-scholastic center and learn first-hand of the wealth of the Salesian model being offered.
