Sumba, Indonesia – March 2024 – In March 2024, the students Year 12 classes at several Don Bosco Professional Institutes successfully passed an important moment in their training. Practical exams and proficiency exams are crucial steps for students majoring in Computer and Network Engineering and Electrical Installation Engineering. Their results show that all students have been declared excellent or competent in their respective fields. Practical exams test students' ability to apply knowledge learned in class to real-world situations. At the same time, the competency examination assesses their understanding of the basic principles and competencies relevant to their field of study. The dean principal of the Don Bosco Professional Institute, in a statement, expressed his pride at the results obtained by Year 12. “This is the result of the hard work and dedication of students, as well as the tireless support of educators and parents. Smarhon, Belarus – March 2024 - The fourth edition of the "Oratoryiada" event was held in the St Michael the Archangel parish in Smarhon on 23 March. This was a sports competition between the Salesian oratories in Belarus for children from the 5th and 7th classes. The sporting event began with Mass celebrated by the Provincial Delegate for the Belarusian Delegation, Fr Pavel Shcharbitsky, SDB, who stressed the importance for the participants to cultivate a sports culture and a spirit of friendship and peace, which are the fundamental goals of the "Oratoryiada". Fr Aleh Karaliou, SDB, In charge of Youth Ministry, opened the event which saw young athletes compete in different disciplines: table football, table tennis, darts, jumping rope, checkers and dance. After lunch, an intellectual contest was held in which participants answered questions related to the life and activity of St John Bosco. Two big team games took place at the end of the competition. At the end of the day there were the awards ceremony during which Fr Karaliou thanked all those who made the event possible.
Guatemala City, Guatemala - March 2024 - A National Meeting of Preferential Option works and social services at the service of young people in situations of vulnerability and exclusion in the Salesian presence in Guatemala took place at the Miguel Magone Youth Centre in Guatemala City. 52 young leaders and 57 educators and leaders from Mission Societies, Oratories and Vocational Training Centres in different parts of the country spoke on the theme of "Faith and Commitment". The meeting was held with three goals: to become aware of the deep relationship that must exist between faith and justice in our life and in Educative and Pastoral Community; to deepen knowledge of some social factorss concerning the relationship between faith and justice; to better understand some aspects of social reality that affect especially young people. These meetings allow people to continue dreaming as Don Bosco did with his young people to accompany them in their different processes of growth and commitment to faith, in the transformation of their lives and their environments with a heart that transforms "wolves" into "lambs".
Brasilia, Brazil – March 2024 – The "Edebê" Pubishing House took part in ExpoANEC, together with leading companies in the education sector in Brasilia on 21 and 22 March during the National Forum of Catholic Education and the General Assembly of Catholic Education, promoted by ANEC. The "Edebê" stand received over 250 visitors, presenting its innovative educational solutions with particular focus on materials for religious education and robotics projects. ExpoANEC also fostered opportunities for interaction between participants, offering access and detailed information to the latest solutions and market trends and to establish strategic partnerships.
Guatemala City, Guatemala – March 2024 - The first Annual Ordinary Assembly of the Association of Salesian Cooperators (ASC) in Guatemala was held on Sunday, 10 March. It involved members from the six local centres as well as some from one of the two formation centres. The Assembly began with the greeting and blessing and the Salesian Good Morning from Fr Juan Carlos Mesén, National Delegate for the ASC in Guatemala. Each director and coordinator then presented their activities. The event took place in the Great Hall of the Salesian Theologate in the San Juan Bosco Parish and María Auxiliadora Shrine in Guatemala City.
Riobamba, Ecuador – March 2024 - The Santo Tomás Apóstol Educational Unit in Riobamba (UESTAR) experienced an important event on 15 March 2024, with the blessing and opening of its modern robotics laboratories. Institutional authorities, parents, students and teachers participated in the event. The Dean of UESTAR, Ximena Díaz, opened the ceremony by welcoming all those present and highlighted the value of this new space for the institution. Subsequently, the blessing of the laboratories was carried out by Fr Fausto Siavichay, SDB, from the Riobamba Community, who stressed the importance of technological progress in harmony with ethical and moral principles. The authorities present, led by Fr Rubinsky Sánchez, Rector of the Riobamba community, and Kléber Saltos, President of the Central Committee of Parents, stressed the importance of these robotics laboratories in the context of secondary education and technological development in the country. The need to train highly qualified students in this field, suitable for facing the challenges and exploiting the opportunities offered by robotics in contemporary society, was also stressed. Subsequently, guests had the opportunity to visit the modern facilities of the laboratory led by UESTAR professors who illustrated the latest equipment and technologies available for research and learning in this area.
