Baimbridge, Guadeloupe – April 2024 - Salesian Emmanuel Petit was ordained a priest by Bishop Philippe Guiougou, bishop of Guadeloupe on Sunday, 21April in the Saint-Luc church in Baimbridge. The new priest will remain in the mission in this Salesian community settled on this island of the Antilles since 2020, as Fr Daniel Federspiel, Superior of the France-Belgium South Province (FRB), announced. In this way, he will continue his mission of support for young people within the Lakou Bosco association and their pastoral care.
Mestre, Italy – April 2024 - The second session of the Eighth Provincial Chapter of the Salesians of Northeastern Italy (INE) took place at the Don Bosco Community in Mestre from 25 to 27 April. The Chatper members met to discuss and explore three crucial themes: the animation and care of the true life of each Salesian; the mission lived together: Salesians, Salesian Family and laity "with" and "for" young people; juridical issues related to the governance of the Congregation. The first afternoon of work was dedicated to reading the contributions and the summary prepared by the pre-Chapter commission, offering participants a complete overview of the topics under discussion. Friday began with the celebration of Mass and Morning Paryer, followed by intense group discussions to outline the contributions to be sent to the GC29. In the afternoon, after a constructive assembly discussion on the work carried out, the participants continued with more in-depth discussions for each core area, going on to outline some choices that can give substance to the document. On Saturday 27 April, after further meetings and personal study of the contributions, a vote was taken on them. The afternoon continued with the vote for the two delegates of the Province who will participate in the CG29 in 2025, alongside the appointed Provincial Fr Silvio Zanchetta.
San Francisco, United States – April 2024 – On 21 April Fr Hugo Orozco, Councillor for the Interamerica Region, met with the Salesian Province of the United States West (SUO) Youth Ministry team. Led by Fr Fabian Cardenas, SDB, Provincial Delegate for Youth Ministry, the meeting highlighted the strong commitment and passion of the community for helping young people. Inspired by the story of the Servant of God Luis (Luigi) Bolla, Fr Orozco spoke of the model of the Good Shepherd. Continuing the meeting, Fr Cardenas highlighted the challenges and unique traits of the Province and the insights reached by the Youth Ministry sector in the last four years. In conclusion, the Regional Councillor inspired everyone by stressing the importance of a deep knowledge of Salesian teaching methods; he then encouraged the use of the academic resources available in this region, especially in Berkeley. Finally, he recognised the valuable practical and pastoral dimension provided by the Salesian Center for Ongoing Formation for America (CSFPA) in Quito, Ecuador.
Venezuela – April 2024 - On 19-20 April the Salesian Family of Venezuela celebrated the promises of 16 new Salesian Cooperators (ASC. At the Mother Mazzarelloa College of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, seven ASC members from the Juan Carlos Serna Centre in Coro made their promise. Nine other ASCs made their promise in Our Lady of Fatima Parish at Punto Fijo. The opportunity was also taken to erect a new ASC Centre, the Jesús Buen Pastor. Mass was celebrated by Fr David Marín, SDB, Delegate for the Salesian Cooperators in Venezuela, accompanied by the Salesian community.
Brussels, Belgium – April 2024 - The Provincial Coordinator of the social work sector in the Salesian Province of Medellín, Colombia (COM), Fr Carlos Manuel Barrios, SDB, had the opportunity to meet at the Colombian Embassy in Brussels, with Ms Zully Laverde, head of the Belgian Embassy for Human Rights in Colombia. During the exchange, topics involved the restoration of the rights of adolescents and young people rescued from armed conflict in Colombia and on the human rights approach to peace building. In addition, the contribution that the Salesians have made in Colombia through their educative and pastoral mission was explored, starting from the consolidation of the processes of accompaniment and human transformation of adolescents and young people, to continue consolidating a culture of peace in the country.
Veržej, Slovenia – April 2024 - Members of the Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA) from local centres in the Salesian Province of Slovenia (SLO) gathered in Marijanišče in Veržej from 19 to 21 April for the annual meeting and spiritual renewal. ADMA Provincial Assistant Fr Janez Žerovnik, SDB, invited Fr Miran Sajovic, SDB, who spoke to the participants about some personalities of the Salesian Family on the path of holiness from the point of view of Marian devotion, such as Blessed Sister Eusebia Palomino, FMA and the Servant of God Fr Andrej Majcen SDB.
