Yangon, Myanmar – June 2024 – A course on the basics of Social Communication was held from 3 to 22 June, organised by the Executive Committee of MIRS (Myanmar Institute of Religious Studies) and held by the Delegate for Social Communication of the Myanmar Salesian Vice-Province, Fr Andrea Maung Maung. The event, which took place in Yangon, at the headquarters of the Conference of Catholic Religious of Myanmar, was attended by 22 Sisters and postulants from different Congregations. The course focused on different aspects of communication, such as news writing, public speaking skills, digital photography and basic video editing. The culminating moment of the course was the sharing of the professional stories of the participants in front of the class, to exercise the ability to speak in public. All sharing was recorded by phone, and then uploaded to social networks.
Lubumbashi, DR Congo – June 2024 - A Feast of Gratitude for the Provincial of Central Africa (AFC), Fr Guillermo Basañes. was held on Saturday 22 June at Boys Town Lubumbashi. 228 Salesians and 22 novices belonging to and residing in the southern part of the country participated in this traditional annual meeting that was marked by the Eucharistic celebration, the reading of the messages addressed to the Provincial, a projection of the summary of the Rector Major's visit to the country and the sharing of a fraternal meal. The Mass was presided over by Fr Basañes, who chose gratitude and prayer in time of war as his intentions for the day, to highlight the communion of heart and spirit of the entire Salesian Province in the face of the cruelty and atrocities caused by the painful situation of war that the population of the North East of the country is experiencing.
Ashaiman, Ghana – June 2024 - The conclusion of the Extraordinary Visitation to the Province of South Western Africa (AOS) conducted on behalf of the Rector Major by Fr Américo Chaquisse, former Councillor for the Africa-Madagascar Region, was celebrated on 21 June. The meeting took place at the Provincial House located in Ashaiman. Since 17 March 2024, Fr Chaquisse has visited 21 Salesian communities located in the five countries of the AOS Province: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo. During these three months the Visitor had the opportunity to speak with each confrere and to meet members of the Salesian Family and collaborators in the works. The closing of the Extraordinary Visitation was marked by two meetings: the first with the Provincial Council and the second with Rectors of communities, followed by the Eucharistic celebration and a fraternal agape moment. Fr Américo Chaquisse expressed his joy at having carried out the Extraordinary Visitation. Fr Denis Soro, AOS Provincial, expressed his gratitude to Fr Chaquisse on behalf of the Salesians for the availability shown by agreeing to conduct this Extraordinary Visitation and ensured the implementation of the recommendations that the Rector Major will send with the concluding letter.
(ANS – Rome) – The Salesian Hagiographic Calendar was presented and honoured at the opening and blessing of the new facilities of the Salesian General Postulation in Rome, at the Zeffirino Namuncurá Community in Via della Bufalotta 550 .
(ANS – Rome) – Card. Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, as part of the work of the summer plenary session of the General Council and with the consent of the other members of his Council, has appointed Fr José Ariel Guerrero Castro as Superior of the St Luis Bertrand Province of Medellín, Colombia, for the 2024-2030 period.
Antofagasta, Chile – June 2024 – In recent weeks, about 50 students from different schools in Chile have gathered at the Don Bosco Salesian Institute in Antofagasta to take part in the 8th Congress of Vocational Technical Education Students from the Norte Grande region. The participants were welcomed by the Principal of the school, Héctor Ramírez, and by the Rector, Fr Miguel Rojas, He referred to Strenna 2024, inviting young people to dream and look at new technological trends as a great challenge in the educational and work environment. The event, which is part of the "Exponor 2024" programme, addressed important issues such as the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in education and the world of work. José Aravena, Production Director of the Arquimed Company spoke at the Congress, underlining the importance of the irruption of this new technology in different sectors of industry and society. Finally, the students of the participating schools and high schools went to the "Exponor 2024" exhibition centre to learn about the new technologies, products and services offered by over 1,100 exhibitors from 32 countries and from all over Chile.

The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

This assembly, the most important one that the Congregation can experience, occurs every six years along the Salesian Congregation’s journey.
