(ANS – Podgorica) – On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the “Don Bosko” school, a festive celebration was organised on Wednesday, 31 January, at the premises of the Don Bosco Centre in Podgorica. Don Bosco school is a private educational institution founded by the Salesians in Podgorica, which carries out educational work through the organisation of courses.
(ANS – Rome) – In view of the Communication Conference 2024, entitled “Shaping Tomorrow”, scheduled to take place from 1 to 7 August 2024 at the facilities of the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) in Rome, the Salesian Congregation’s Communication Sector is launching a series of articles intended to explore the nature, meanings, visions and perspectives of this event We begin today with a careful analysis of the meaning of the motto that will guide the work.
(ANS - Rome) – The Strennas that Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, now Cardinal, has produced and disseminated in his 10 years at the head of the Salesian Congregation (2014-2024) are the subject of a publication by his Secretary and spokesperson, Fr Giuseppe Costa. The collection is entitled "Called to Love with Hope" and in the introduction among other things states, the authoritative contributions of journalist Enzo Romeo, professor of the Theological Faculty of Sicily Massimo Naro, and sociologist Cecilia Costa, of the University of Roma Tre, who, from their point of view, make a transversal reading of the volume.
On Thursday, 29 February 2024, the book will be presented at the Maria Santissima Bambina Institute, at Via Paolo VI, Rome, during an event that can also be followed remotely by watching the live stream available on YouTube.
(ANS – Santo Domingo) – Coming from the Northeast of Brazil, where he had celebrated the Feast of Don Bosco and paid tribute to the Servant of God Father Cícero Romão Batista, whom he proclaimed a Salesian Cooperator, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, landed on Wednesday, 7 February 2024 in Santo Domingo, to carry out an Animation Visit to the Salesians of the St John Bosco Province of the Antilles (ANT).
Valencia, Venezuela – February 2024 – As part of the Extraordinary Visitation to the St Luke Salesian Province of Venezuela (VEN), Fr Hugo Orozco, Councillor for the Interamerica Region visited Casa Don Bosco in Valencia from 2-5 February. The Extraordinary Visitation, which began in November 2023, had a break and resumed at the end of January at the El Concejo community. Its objective is to listen, converse with confreres, accompany and encourage the educative and pastoral work that takes place in the Salesian presences in Venezuela. The presence of Fr Orozco was very close and joyful for this occasion, characterised by sharing with the youngsters of the house and by accompaniment and animation of the work of the Salesians. The Regional Councillor met with each Salesian, the members of the council of the Educative and Pastoral Community, the representatives of the Salesian Youth Movement and the heads of Salesian Family groups.
Bariloche, Argentina – February 2024 - The Extraordinary Visitation to the Ceferino Namuncurá Province of South Argentina (ARS) began on 7 February, led by Fr Gabriel Romero, Councillor for the America South Cone Region, on behalf of the Rector Major. The visitation began by taking advantage of the conclusion of the meeting of the Salesians of ARS Province, at the Cardenal Cagliero Retreat House in Bariloche. In the meeting with the Provincial Council on 8 February, the situation of the ARS Province in all sectors of animation was presented to the Regional Councillor: Youth Ministry, Formation, Mission and Economy. In addition, the Province's Educative and Pastoral Plan and the Overall Pastoral Plan were presented. Fr Darío Perera, ARS Provincial, commented on the situation of the Salesian houses that make up the Province, which is preparing to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first Salesian missionaries in Argentina.

Myanmar – Tragedy of Innocent Children in the midst of Armed Conflicts
(ANS – Naypyidaw) - Myanmar finds itself immersed in profound grief and anguish as innocent lives, particularly those of children, continue to be mercilessly lost in the enduring armed conflicts. Families are left devastated by the tragic loss of their loved ones while the relentless violence shows no signs of abating. This week, a heartfelt plea from Myanmar reached our community, shedding light on the heart-wrenching death of a young girl Juliet in a military airstrike, prompting a unified call for prayers and action.

(ANS – Rome) – Last Friday, 22 November 2024, at the UPS, the Salesian Historical Institute (ISS), in collaboration with the Don Bosco Study Centre (CSDB) at the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) in Rome, presented the volume Giovanni Bosco, Predicazione. Introduzione, testi critici e note a cura di Aldo Giraudo e Massimo Schwarzel. (= ISS – Fonti, Prima Series, 18). Rome, 2024. The symposium involved numerous scholars who were able to illustrate the originality and specific value of this new text on St John Bosco.

United States – INT’L MIGRANTS DAY: Salesian Missions highlights educational programs that empower migrants

Dear friends and readers, in this December issue I address you with my best wishes for a new year! We find ourselves in a new time that is given to us to live with intensity and with "newness of life," which I make my own, as a propitious and opportune wish. I am speaking of the gift that the Holy Father has given us in recent days: his Encyclical letter Dilexit Nos on the human and Divine Love of the Heart of Jesus Christ.
