(ANS - Rome) - Saturday, 14 December, 150 years have passed since the birth of the Servant of God Ignác Stuchlý, which occurred in 1869 in Bolesław, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
(ANS - Rome) - Yesterday, 10 December, as part of the winter plenary session of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the agreement of his Council, appointed the Provincials of the Brazil-Campo Grande Provinces (BCG) and Brazil-Porto Alegre (BPA) for the six-year term (2020-2026). These are, respectively, Fr Ricardo Carlos and Fr Gilson Marcos da Silva.
(ANS - Rome) - At the end of the international Salesian conference on clean, renewable green energy, entitled "Energy Forever" - Rome, November 26-27 - representatives of various NGOs, Mission Offices and Salesian institutions of around 20 countries from all over the world, led by the Congregation's Economer General, Salesian Brother Jean Paul Muller, and by the General Councilor for the Missions, Fr Guillermo Basañes, drew up and signed a final Declaration, which contains specific commitments on the protection of Creation in terms of care of and for the "common home" that the Salesian world fully feels its own, and not just from today.
(ANS - Rome) - Starting yesterday, 8 December, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary and the anniversary of the birth of the Salesian oratory, the Salesian Congregation has a totally renewed institutional website: the address has remained the same - www.sdb.org - but the inside of this vast "digital oratory" has been deeply rearticulated.
(ANS - Rome) - December 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, is the date chosen by the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, to make the customary missionary appeal addressed to the entire Congregation.
(ANS - Rome) - On the day of the commemoration of Blessed Philip Rinaldi, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major, with the General Council's consensus, appointed Fr Ramón Darío Perera as the new Provincial of South Argentina (ARS), for the period 2020-2026.

RMG – Don Bosco: “The Fascinating Saint”
(ANS - Rome) - Don Bosco is perhaps the most amazing and fascinating saint, history has ever produced. The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

Spain – 33rd Edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature: Here Are the Winners
(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
