Rome, Italy - May 2020 - On May 16, 1887, Don Bosco celebrated the Eucharist at the altar dedicated to Mary Help of Christians in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Rome. During the celebration he was seen crying many times, contemplating his whole life as a miracle. In memory of that memorable date, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, accompanied by Fr Carlo Zucchetti, pastor, and Fr Jean-Claude Ngoy, Director, celebrated Mass on the same altar as Don Bosco did 133 years ago.
(ANS - Rome) - On 8 May, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, publicly thanked Fr Eusebio Muñoz for his service as Delegate of the Rector Major for the Salesian Family for six years and he announced his appointment as Director and Procurator of the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid, Spain.
(ANS - RMG) - This year the traditional novena of Mary Help of Christians, from 15 to 23 May, takes on a very special meaning given the health emergency provoked by the spread of the Coronavirus, which for some months has been scourging all humanity.
(ANS - Rome) - As part of the session of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with his Council's consensus, appointed the new Superiors of the Province of Piła (PLN) and of the Vice Province of Africa Tropical Equatorial (ATE). They are, respectively, Fr Tadeusz Itrych and Fr Roland Mintsa.
(ANS - Rome) - On 8 May 2020, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, and the Councilors concluded the General Council's work sessions with a group of Councilors physically present in the Rome office and others present online from Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil and Spain. "At the beginning of the sessions of the First General Council of the year 2020 with the new Councilors, we held ordinary administration meetings," said the Rector Major. "Firstly, we completed ongoing formation under the guidance of Fr Stefano Vanoli, Secretary, and Fr Pier Fausto Frisoli on juridical questions and on the Vademecum of the General Council."
(ANS - Rome) During the Good Night on Friday 8 May at the end of the General Council session, the Rector Major, Fr Angel Fernandez Artime, announced the appointment of Fr Joan Lluís Playà as the New World Delegate for the Salesian Family.

(ANS - Rome) - Don Bosco is perhaps the most amazing and fascinating saint, history has ever produced. The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
