The report confirms that persecutions are "more numerous than ever", analysing the data of the last two years, from August 2022 to June 2024. The most recent edition of the report was presented to the British Parliament on 22 October.
The research was conducted in 18 “Key Countries” ranging from Latin America to the Far East. An important part of the report consists of testimonies of people who have suffered attacks because of religion.
Persecutions against Christians have also increased in major nations such as China, India and Nigeria.
Other topics analysed are: the displacement of Christian communities (in Syria, for example, before 2011 there were over 1.5 million Christian faithful, currently there are about 250,000), violence against women and girls, kidnapping and intimidation against priests and the publication of derogatory content against Christianity in school textbooks.
The report also includes positive observations. They concern Vietnam, where the situation of Christians has improved. The main turning point occurred during the pandemic, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Church in helping the most vulnerable population.
