(ANS – Suva) – “In the early afternoon of 20 February, the winds began to intensify. By sunset it was terrifying to see the winds and rain bend huge trees, snap branches, rip roofs from buildings, tear through vegetation and dwellings”, Fr. James K. Hoe, SDB, speaks about the horrific experience of the Tropical Cyclone Winston.

(ANS – Vienna) – On occasion of the Day of Street-children on 31 January, the Austrian NGO, Jugend Eine Welt, which is supporting Don Bosco projects all over the world, demanded that much better protection be given to refugee minors in Europe, in particular in Turkey and Greece where the majority of refugees arrive.

 

(ANS - Freetown) - In the past few days the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, on a visit to Sierra Leone, honoured Don Bosco by meeting prisoners, rejoicing with the youth, and celebrating the Eucharist with the Salesian Family. He was repeating gestures much loved by Don Bosco, the Father and Teacher of Youth.

(ANS - Vatican City) – On Saturday 30 January, just before the Feast of Don Bosco, the Holy Father Pope Francis appointed the Salesian Fr Virgilio Do Carmo da Silva as Bishop of Dili, capital of East Timor. Fr Do Carmo da Silva is currently Superior of the Salesians of the Vice-Province of Indonesia-East Timor.
