SPECIAL REPORTS
(ANS - Tijuana) - Every day, hundreds of Haitian migrants arrive in Tijuana to try to enter the United States. And since the start of this situation the Salesians have been offering the best possible care to all these people
(ANS - Rome) - Today, 17 October, we celebrate World Day for the Eradication of Poverty. On much of the media the tone is depressing, though sadly true: "In the world there are 836 million people who live in extreme poverty ... there are a billion people who do not eat every day, millions of people who lack access to health care or education. Children are exploited ... and yet,” says Ana Muñoz, "we do not want to forget the message that education is one of the keys to escape from poverty, as the Salesians have been demonstrating for over 140 years."
(ANS - New Delhi) - To avoid "the phenomenon of child brides, we need to focus on education - not only so-called formal education but also what we call non-formal. Ethical values and moral principles need to be transmitted to children, to strengthen the awareness of their rights,” says Fr George Menamparampil, a Salesian from the Missions Department and former National Coordinator of the Salesian schools in India, in an interview on the occasion of the International Day of children and girls, which is celebrated on 11 October each year.
(ANS - Rio Negro) - One of the most important activities of the Salesian mission is the work of the oratories. Although the oratories were founded by St Philip Neri (1515-1595) in Rome, Italy, one might say that Don Bosco was a great reformer and supporter of the oratories, giving them a new form, but keeping the same pastoral educational objectives: to evangelize by educating and educate by evangelizing, which is another way of saying: "to form good Christians and honest citizens".
